With the call to social distance, the feeling of dissociation is more relevant than ever. Especially with classes, clubs and organizations moving to online platforms, it is easy to fall into the virtual rabbit hole, losing that in person connection. Contact with other individuals is proven to cultivate better mental health and provide a sense of purpose. This pandemic is the perfect time to create a plan to maintaining a healthy mindset, and below are opportunities to make the most of our new reality.
#1: Explore Columbus outdoors
From the Scioto Mile, to bike paths on the Olentangy, Columbus has a myriad of different walkways and greenery to explore. Grab a friend and take a socially distant walk or bike ride around the city.
#2: Start a book club
Now is finally time to take up that book you’ve been meaning to read, but never had the time. Get together a group and hold weekly zoom meetings to discuss the latest best seller.
#3: Make a new meal
Get creative with your roommates and learn a new dish, dessert or both. Make spaghetti sauce from scratch or your own sushi roll.
#4: Write a letter to a friend
Send a letter in the mail and surprise a friend or family member with a handwritten letter and urge them to continue the chain onto someone new.
#5: Listen to podcasts
Podcasts range from comedy sketches, to talks on climate change and even stories about unsolved mysteries. Compare with your friends and decide which one excites you.
